Description

EDIT: 8-10-2011: Updated the colors based on feedback, shifted the background around a little bit. I'm going to leave the anatomy tweaks alone this time and take what I've learned to the next piece, thank you!

This is Shyla The Fallen from Rift. She's one of the leaders of the Guardians, but in the Defiant starting area, she's one of the many Guardian leaders that have fell to corruption. Evil fairies are just awesome anyway. I'll probably be drawing more of the little buggers. They're just hilarious.

I've been working on this throughout the week, between other work and filling up my sketchbook with ideas for another very cool thing I'm collaborating on.

Critique Welcome
My own critique:
- Needs photo reference. I think the pose would have come out stronger if I used a reference. Same goes for the hands. They're both a little stiff.

- Background is a leap in the right direction compared to my other work but I'd like to merge the subject into the background a little more! I think some foreground elements would have helped with that.

First, I actually love the coloring in this. The palette is perfect and balanced, and I feel like you used the canvas spacing well -- its not too busy but there aren't any empty spaces either.

My only critiques are:
Anatomy - Her arms appear short, and her chest (not boobies -- the actual upper torso) is too narrow. Also, (assuming her bottoms are made of cloth) her bottoms appear too pointy at her ladyparts. I'm not saying make it a camel toe, but unless the material is metal, the cloth would be more form-fitting, I'd think.

Coloring - A nice subtle green glow/reflection on the skin wouldn't hurt this piece. : )

Background - The background is actually really nice, though I suggest making it less busy in areas that are high in detail -- her tummy section of her armor's intricate (and beautifully drawn) detail gets less focus with how busy the background is up top. : ( A quick and simple fix for this would be to swap the dark bottom section with the lantern-like mushrooms in the middle of the background. That way the business of the bg would be a little more spread out, and I feel like it would appease your feelings about your bg : )
